A visit to the doctor

Many of us old timers remember the series Marcus Welby, M.D. and its formulaic representation of what people wanted a doctor to be.  Reality is much different, and I have a doctor who has been reading me the riot act regarding my weight for years.  Sadly, losing weight is more than just diet and exercise. It involves changes in life which make it harder to enjoy gatherings where food is part of the social equation.  This may be my biggest weakness in regard to food - the social gathering....

The first thing on my docket for the day was a visit to the doctor in Mario Mode.  I hadn't lost any weight since my last visit, and he suggested that I think of bariatric surgery.  This is the last thing I want, as I don't want to go through the suffering that Lili did after she lost her weight (and gained some of it back).  I'm tired of hearing the riot act, and I know that I have to get serious about losing weight.  It's not easy, but with a little more activity in my life, I should be able to turn things in the right direction.

Once done with the doctor, it was off to the bank to withdraw this month's share of the rent payment on the family homestead.  I certainly can use the money.  But I'll have to learn to depend on less money from this source soon - we have to start planning for expenses such as a new roof in the next few years.

When I got home, I was finally free to change back into Marian Mode and challenge the world.  It took me a while, as I was more interested in relaxing for a while and watching a couple of movies.

After a couple of films, I decided to go back to my Raspberry Pi Media Server project. It is not the project for someone totally alien to computing.  Yet, it is a decent project for an old time mainframe programmer wanting to get familiar with a Linux distribution and learn some of the basics of "*ix" type systems by using tools in a safe environment.  Eventually, the knowledge gained here might allow me to work with a more saleable set of tools on a spare PC I can sacrifice before sending it to the scrap heap.

Around 6:00, I decided to take a drive to Paramus to see what was on sale at Catherine's. It looks like they reconfigured the store, moving dresses from one side of the store to the other, preparing for the Spring and Summer stuff arriving over the next few weeks.  There were a few items I'd consider buying.  But right now, I'm not pulling any more money out of my wallet until I decide what items of clothing I need for the upcoming seasons.

By the time I made it home, it was 10:00 pm, and I was ready to fall out.  Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.  So I don't want to burn the midnight oil tonight....
